Issue 174 - Jan/Feb 2021

A$11.95

We don’t think that there’s a single person who predicted that 2020 was going to play out the way that it did. But it happened and we all dealt with it the best way we could.

Just over the next rise is 2021 and HEAVY DUTY 174, the January/February issue.

That custom Shovel on the cover started life as a Softail but was then personalised. Spend the time and check out all of the little details on this amazing build.

Also on the cover is an extra-special Road Glide Special. They aren’t delivered from the Motor Company with a 131-cube M8 fitted, but that’s what is powering this one down the road.

Between the covers you’ll find El Chicano, a bike much deeper than a few scrolls. Look further and you’ll find Massachusetts Gold, a Sportster from Shadley Brothers that will also draw you in. Then there’s The Cyclops, an M8 Softail built to dominate on race tracks. The Duckworth Clan gave us an insight into what makes them tick as a family where every member owns a Harley. Dave went for a ride with the Gasoline Alley Hoggies and had a blast. Mainframe Custom Cycles have turned out an awesome combo. Dave shares his thoughts on the LiveWire; we found a Dark Knight Fat Boy; Suzanne spent A Day in the Saddle in south-west WA; a bloke called Tom built a unique Sportster; Doc shares his trip to the Burt Munro Challenge and also a Feuling W3. Mick takes delivery of Project M8 Superglide and starts doing stuff to it.

All of this as well as the regulars you know and love from Doc and Tex.

On sale January 4 in newsagents right across Australia and New Zealand.

While you’re in the newsagents, check out OUR BEST M8.

148 glorious pages showcasing the best of the Milwaukee-8 era to date. Road tests, the original launch, M8 development insights, and the hottest customs as well as fresh, new tech stories devoted to the eight-valve wonder.

$11.95 from your local newsagent. Also available online for $17.95 delivered with a free stubby holder.

R.I.P. Jamin Swaneveld

Tragically, after his ride was our cover feature in our HD174 issue, Jamin Swaneveld was killed while out riding his beloved street custom. He leaves behind his beautiful wife Marcia and two children, Willow and BJ.

Recently Jamin closed his tattoo parlour in the main street of Upwey to invest all of his time and money hand-crafting and building a new studio at his home. Jamin was only two weeks from opening, before his dream was cut short.

Jamin was a true gentleman and much loved community member – who touched many with not only his artistry but lending a quiet ear or sharing a heart-felt laugh.

Please help support a local, well-respected and loved family in this most difficult and heart-breaking time.

This fundraiser has been set up by Natalie Leys (family friend) on behalf of Jamin’s immediate family. All proceeds 100% will go directly to Jamin Swaneveld’s immediate family, beneficiaries Marcia (Broomhead), Willow and BJ Swaneveld.
